About Jen.

Originally from Macau, China, Jen Lo is a classically trained jazz pianist, composer, and educator. Recently graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Piano Performance (2021), she has studied with lots of great Canadian jazz pianists such as David Restivo, Noam Lemish, Mark Eisenman and David Braid.

At the age of 6, she started teaching herself to play melodies that she heard and started taking classical piano lessons shortly after. She enjoys playing what she hears and loves regardless of the genres. With one eye on the tradition and the other on the modernity, she has developed a depth in her improvisation by studying and transcribing different eras of pianists including Fats Waller, Bud Powell, Red Garland, Bill Evans, Hank Jones, Herbie Hancock, Keith Jarrett, Brad Mehldau, Gerald Clayton and more.

Being an active member of the Toronto jazz community, you can find her performing in many different jazz venues regularly such as Jazz Bistro, the Rex Hotel Jazz and Blues Bar, Poetry Jazz Cafe, the Emmet Ray, etc. She has also performed in numerous music festivals including the TUJF, TD Toronto Jazz Festival, Highland Music Festival, and more. She has worked with many great emerging artists in the Toronto jazz and R&B scene as well as sharing stage with some of the most prominent Canadian jazz musicians.
